Sigma Lambda Beta
International Fraternity, Inc.

Picture of Sigma Lambda Beta

Sigma Lambda Beta fraternity was founded at the University of Iowa on April 4, 1986. Its founder was Baltazar Mendoza-Madrigal, along with seventeen other men. Mendoza-Madrigal, a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, was inspired by the significant contributions of his fraternity to the African American community and recognized a similar need within the Latino community.

After over 40 years, our Fraternity has grown to over 150 collegiate entities spanning over 30 states from Coast to Coast.  Sigma Lambda Beta entities can be found at some of the largest institutions in the Big Ten, PAC 12, and Big 12 or at some of the most prestigious small private schools across the country. Moreover, our membership has expanded beyond our Hispanic-Latino origins making us one of the most culturally diverse Greek-lettered organizations.

Sigma Lambda Beta's mission is to nurture and further a dynamic, values-based environment that utilizes our historically Latino-based fraternity as a catalyst to better serve the needs and wants of all people.
