CoSTEM Community Council
We the people of the College of STEM maintain a collegial, respectful, fair, and welcoming environment that fosters different ideas; support those with different abilities, backgrounds, and needs; and ensure that college activities are open to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors regardless of personal characteristics. A variety of perspectives are invaluable in teaching, research, and service, and the college does not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment. We will conduct ourselves in a professional manner as we prepare our students to thrive in a supportive community and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
In order to address the needs of our CoSTEM students, faculty, and staff, and support
all members of our CoSTEM community, we commit to the following actions:
- At least one representative from each department will serve on the CoSTEM Community Council (C3), which will provide oversight for actions within departments and at the college-level that contribute to this positive environment for all students, faculty, and staff in the college. Additionally, C3 will seek and discuss future actions to further a collective college-wide effort towards institutional improvements.
- Be receptive to change and educate faculty and staff to act as advocates for students, especially when student safety is a concern.
- Provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to share their stories, concerns, and ideas to facilitate open conversations that lead to positive change. This includes surveys and informal conversations.
- Continue to educate APSU CoSTEM faculty, staff, and students, through events, training, reading, listening, viewing and discussing materials on topics that promote a collegial, respectful, fair, and welcoming environment. This will be highly encouraged of all members of CoSTEM, including participating in small group discussions and providing resources for self-education.
If you encounter discrimination or harassment please contact a trusted faculty or staff member, or contact the APSU Office of Institutional Culture.
