National Science Foundation IRES Grants
The U.S. National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency that supports science and engineering in all 50 states and U.S. territories. NSF was established in 1950 by Congress to:
- Promote the progress of science.
- Advance the national health, prosperity and welfare.
- Secure the national defense.
APSU has received about $360,000 in funding through this program to send undergraduate STEM students to Europe for 7 weeks in summer (May-June 2022-2025) to work on innovative science involving amorphous materials while exploring European lifestyle and culture.

International Research Experiences for Students
The International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) program supports international research and research-related activities for U.S. science and engineering students. The IRES program contributes to development of a diverse, globally engaged workforce with world-class skills. IRES focuses on active research participation by undergraduate and/or graduate students in high quality international research, education and professional development experiences in NSF-funded research areas.
