Richard M. Hawkins Award

Eligibility

• Full-time faculty member at any academic rank

• The award will not be presented in a year when candidates fail to meet the necessary criteria as judged by the Selection Committee

Nominations

A call for nominations is extended by the chair of the Faculty Honors and Awards Committee each January. Each department may nominate one individual. The nominee's name and supporting materials must be submitted to the appropriate dean. Supporting materials include:

• A current vita

• Letters of support

• Copies of any scholarly or creative work (texts, recordings, portfolios, etc.) as evidence of the candidate's contributions

All supporting materials must be in electronic format. Each dean ranks the nominees from their college or school and submits those ranked names along with supporting materials to the Selection Committee via the Provost Office.

Selection

The individual receiving the majority vote of the Selection Committee is recommended as the recipient. The Selection Committee is composed of:

• Chair of the Faculty Honors and Awards Committee

• Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

• Chair of the Research Council

• Three immediate past Hawkins Award winners

Award

The award is presented at the Fall Faculty Meeting and consists of:

• $1,000 in faculty professional development funds or a $1,000 check (choice made by recipient)

• An engraved plaque with the recipient's name inscribed, displayed in the foyer of the Browning Administration Building
