APSU National Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award

Eligibility

• Full-time tenured faculty member or department chair

• Minimum of ten years of continuous full-time teaching at Austin Peay State University

• Faculty on authorized leaves of absence (e.g., professional development leave, maternity leave) during the ten-year period remain eligible

• All ranks are eligible; academic credentials requisite to the position held are sufficient

• One recipient per year

• Recipients are not eligible to win again until twenty years of full-time APSU teaching have elapsed, beginning the semester following the award

Nominations

Each January, the chair of the Honors and Awards Committee issues a call for nominations from faculty, the Student Government Association, and Alumni. Each college dean, the Library Director, the SGA president, and the Assistant Vice President for Alumni and Engagement conduct a nomination process within their area and ballot to determine nominees. Selected nominees must submit a one- to two-page narrative biography covering their scholarship and teaching relevant to this award. The nominee receiving the most votes after two balloting processes receives the award.

Award

The award consists of:

• $1,000 in faculty professional development funds or a $1,000 check (choice made by recipient)

• An engraved plaque serving as a personal memento

• The recipient's name inscribed on a plaque permanently displayed in the Browning Administration Building
