Awards to Faculty

The following awards are coordinated by the Honors and Awards Committee.

Richard M. Hawkins Award

This award honors faculty who have made noteworthy contributions to scholarship or creative activity. Nominations open each January; each department may nominate one individual.

Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Faculty Award for Community Service

The Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Faculty Award recognizes faculty whose service has enhanced, or will enhance, quality of life in the Clarksville/Montgomery County area. Contributions may have been made over a period of years.

APSU National Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award

The Distinguished Professor Award is based on professional performance with a major emphasis on teaching. Nominations come from faculty, the Student Government Association, and Alumni each January.

Socrates Award for Excellence in Teaching

The Socrates Award is awarded for outstanding teaching to tenure-track faculty who have not yet received tenure. Academic advising, research, and creative activities that clearly support excellence in teaching are also considered.

Tenured Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching

The Tenured Faculty Award recognizes outstanding teaching to tenured faculty. Academic advising, research, and creative activities that clearly support excellence in teaching are also considered.

Faculty Student Success Champion Award

This award honors faculty who have gone above and beyond traditional expectations to lead transformative initiatives—inside or outside the classroom—that meaningfully advance student learning, retention, persistence, or timely graduation. Mentorship, collaboration, and innovation are also considered.
