Concerned about a student?

If you are worried about a student's well-being or have observed concerning behavior, let us know. Your report can be the first step in getting them the help they need.

Our Process

  1. A concern is reported via the online form.

  2. The Care Team confidentially reviews the submission.

  3. A Care Coordinator reaches out to the student to offer support.

  4. The student is connected with campus or community resources.

For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, please call 911 or Campus Police at (931) 221-7786 immediately.

Understanding Our Support Structure

Click on a topic below to learn more about the teams dedicated to student safety and success.

The Care Team is a group of trained professionals from across the university who work together to support students. When a concern is reported, this team collaborates to find the best way to help the student overcome challenges and succeed at APSU.

Key functions:

  • Reviews Student of Concern reports confidentially.

  • Connects students with resources like counseling, academic support, and health services.

  • Creates a coordinated plan to address barriers to a student's success.

The BTAT is a specialized part of the Care Team that is specifically trained to assess and respond to any potential threats of violence on campus. The team's primary goal is to maintain a safe environment for all members of the APSU community through proactive and preventative measures.

This team is activated only when a situation involves a potential risk of harm to others, following national best practices to ensure a fair and safe resolution.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — three simple but powerful steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. It is a nationally recognized program designed to empower our community to act and get help for someone in crisis.

In a QPR training session, you will learn:

  • How to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis.

  • How to ask someone about their thoughts of suicide.

  • How to persuade them to accept help and refer them to the right resources.

This training is available to students, faculty, and staff. To learn more or sign up for a session, please contact Sharon West or Claudia Alonzo.
