Despite the ongoing pandemic, we look forward to welcoming interested high school students to three separate 1-day events on the campus of Austin Peay State University. Our event will feature one of the new projects that APSU students are currently pursuing based around recording a film score.
Students will have an opportunity to prepare a new work specifically written to accompany a classic film. Over the course of a day, our distinguished faculty and students will help our guests prepare and record using technology found in the recording studios. Clicks tracks, headphones (provided by APSU) and our world class Music Mass Communication facility will give students a unique perspective on making music in these challenging times.
All events will be socially distanced, and masks will be used at all times.

Registration will be handled online. Following a kick-off meeting at noon, students will be divided into like-instrument groups that will spend the day together. We will change activities every 30 minutes for the wind instruments to follow our Covid protocol. Activities will include rehearsal with APSU conductors, sectionals and clinics with APSU faculty, and recording on the Mabry Concert Hall stage. We will be finished by 6pm. A snack will be provided over the course of the day.

Sunday, February 28 - String and Percussion Day (12pm-6pm)
Saturday, March 6 - Woodwind Day (12pm-6pm)

An application for our one-day events must be initiated by the student. Your director or private teacher must be indicated and will be contacted to complete your application. Students have the option to submit an application video for priority consideration, however that is not required. Existing videos (i.e. honor group or remote learning projects) will be acceptable, but should not exceed 2 minutes in length. If you are notified of selection, you will have until February 12 to complete your registration, including the $10 nonrefundable registration fee.

This is a new and very unique undertaking for us. Selection for our Honor Festival has generally been quite competitive in the past. Please keep in mind that the decision to submit an application is a commitment to attend if selected.

As explained in the section above, applications will be initiated by the individual student. As part of that application, they will provide contact information for a director or private teacher, who must complete the brief recommendation in order for the student to be considered.
