2027 Austin Peay Honor Band

We are delighted to announce the 2027 installment of our annual APSU Honor Band! We are proud to offer our traditional 7-9 grade and 10-12 grade Honor Bands, in addition to a reimagined “Festival Band”, which is comprised of students in grades 9-12. This year’s clinicians are Dr. Cory Schmitt (Associate Director of Bands at Austin Peay), James Webb (conductor, musician, and educational leader in Anchorage, AK), and the legendary John Fannin (retired faculty from Murray State University). We are proud to host guest composer Marie A. Douglas, who will be working with ALL of the students at this year’s festival as they explore her music and compositional process throughout the weekend.
AUDITION PROCESS
Winds Audition Requirements
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Perform your assigned region or district audition literature for your grade level (e.g., Midstate, All-West, All-East, Kentucky Region, etc). All 7-12 grade applicants will submit a video. No scales are required. You will submit this video via link to a YouTube video - be sure the video link works and is set to ‘unlisted’ or ‘public’ (not ‘private’) before submitting.
Percussion Audition Requirements
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Perform your assigned region or district audition literature for your grade level (e.g., Midstate, All-West, All-East, Kentucky Region, etc). All 7-12 grade applicants will submit a video. For 10–12 auditions, applicants are required to perform mallet, snare drum and timpani excerpts. For Festival Band auditions, timpani is optional but encouraged. For 7–9 auditions, applicants may select one, two or all three areas to include in their video audition. Applicants who demonstrate proficiency on multiple percussion instruments may be given preference. You will submit this video via link to a YouTube video - be sure the video link works and is set to ‘unlisted’ or ‘public’ (not ‘private’) before submitting.

February 1 – Registration and payment due (alternates will be contacted Feb 2)
A mandatory meeting will be held at 6:30pm Thursday, February 25 in the APSU Concert Hall. The meeting is mandatory for participating students and either the Band Director or designated adult from the School. Ensemble rehearsals will continue through 9:30pm Thursday night. Friday’s rehearsals will take place from 9am until 9pm with a special afternoon concert featuring the APSU Wind Ensemble. Saturday activities will start at 9am, and the three closing concerts will begin at 1pm with the final concert concluding at 4pm.
