Major Field Test

All departments require students graduating with an associate's or bachelor's degree to complete an assessment that covers topics specific to their major. This assessment, known as the Major Field Test, is a graduation requirement. Depending on the degree program, the Major Field Test could be a standardized test, a capstone project, a portfolio review, a class assignment, or other type of assessment. 

Seniors graduating from Education, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Radiologic Science and Special Education programs may be required to take licensure tests as part of the Major Field Test requirement. 

Exemptions for completing the Major Field Test are rare and only available in extenuating circumstances, not for the sake of convenience. If a student is requesting an exemption to the Major Field Test graduation requirement, they should contact their academic department chair, who will submit the request on their behalf. All exemptions to the Major Field Test graduation requirement must be approved by the Office of the Provost.
