7. Flight Training Limitations
The following limitations are for APSU Aviation Science faculty, staff, and students. It is at the discretion of the DPE to follow the weather requirements outlined in §91.155 for FAA practical tests.
7.1 Private Pilot Flight Training
Ceiling and Visibility – Day:

Dual Local – Ceiling 1,000 feet, Visibility 3sm

Dual Cross-Country – Ceiling 1,500 feet, Visibility 5sm

Solo Local – Ceiling 1,500 feet, Visibility 5sm, and instructor endorsement

Solo Cross-Country – Ceiling 3,000 feet, Visibility 6sm, and instructor endorsement
Ceiling and Visibility – Night:

Dual Local – Ceiling 2,000 feet, Visibility greater than 6sm, and forecast to improve

Dual Cross-Country – Ceiling 3,000 feet, Visibility greater than 6sm
7.2 Commercial Pilot Flight Training
Ceiling and Visibility – Day:

Local – Ceiling 1,000 feet, Visibility 3sm, and forecast to improve

Cross-Country – Ceiling 1,500 feet, Visibility 5sm, and forecast to improve
Ceiling and Visibility – Night:

Local – Ceiling 2,000 feet, Visibility greater than 6sm, and forecast to improve

Cross-Country – Ceiling 3,000 feet, Visibility greater than 6sm
Wind: The maximum as per the operator’s manual limitations crosswind.
7.3 Instrument Pilot Flight Training/Simulated IMC Operations (Instrument Rated Pilots, and CFII’s)
Actual IMC flying is not permitted. Good judgment and understanding of your personal limitations are essential. Your instructor’s judgment is the final word for all flights.
Ceiling and Visibility:

Departure – Ceiling 1,500 feet above the highest planned altitude, Visibility 3sm
-
Designated alternate – Ceiling 2,000 feet, Visibility 3sm, at ETA +/- one hour
Wind: The maximum as per the operator’s manual limitations crosswind.
No filed IFR flight will be conducted if icing conditions are forecasted.
The pilot in command will ensure that the aircraft has all equipment required to conduct the planned flight.
7.4 Flight Instructor Pilot Training
Weather limitations shall be the same as Commercial Pilot Flight Training.
Students are not authorized to provide dual instruction.
Students may practice dual ground instruction as guided by your flight instructor.
Student are not authorized to fly from the left seat with passengers on board.
7.5 Certified Flight Instructor Students
Weather limitations shall be the same as Commercial Pilot Flight Training.
CFI students may not give a dual lesson in university aircraft unless employed by the Austin Peay State University as a flight instructor. Except when registered for AVI 4200.
7.6 Unplanned Landings During Solo Flights
In the event of an unplanned landing due to unforecasted weather, maintenance issues, student illness, or other unexpected occurrences, the student will contact APSU Operations after landing. Students MUST receive clearance from an APSU instructor before continuing the flight.
Students MUST inform APSU Operations if there is known or suspected damage to APSU aircraft or property on the ground.
7.7 Slope Landing Limitations
Slope landings will be limited to the following, in both the Guimbal Cabri G2 and the Robinson R-44 Raven II:

Left/Right Skid Up - 10 degrees

Nose Up - 10 degrees

Nose Down - 5 degrees
7.8 Student Solo Flight Limitations
Guimbal Cabri G2
Solo flights will adhere to following limitations:

Wind limitation of 20 knots, with a max gust spread of 10 knots.

An additional 5 gallons of fuel SHALL be calculated and added for all VFR flights.
-
The additional fuel will be above and beyond the requirements of 14 CFR § 91.151.
-
Supervised solo flights will adhere to the following limitations:
-
Wind limitation of 20 knots, with a max gust spread of 10 knots.
-
An additional 5 gallons of fuel SHOULD be calculated and added for all VFR flights.
-
The additional fuel will be above and beyond the requirements of 14 CFR § 91.151.
-
If weight and balance is in doubt, do not add the fuel and be more vigilant.

Robinson R-44 Raven II
Solo flights will adhere to following limitations:
-
Wind limitation of 20 knots, with a max gust spread of 10 knots.
-
An additional 5 gallons of fuel SHALL be calculated and added for all VFR flights.

The additional fuel will be above and beyond the requirements of 14 CFR § 91.151.

Supervised solo flights will adhere to the following limitations:

Wind limitation of 30 knots, with a max gust spread of 15 knots.
-
An additional 5 gallons of fuel SHOULD be calculated and added for all VFR flights.
-
The additional fuel will be above and beyond the requirements of 14 CFR § 91.151.

If weight and balance is in doubt, do not add the fuel and be more vigilant.
-
