From there, click the day/time you would like for your appointment, and follow the instructions to schedule an in-person or online appointment for one of your courses.

What to Expect in a Session:

When you come to the Writing Center, you can expect to collaborate with a thoughtful reader in a friendly, low-stakes environment. You can bring your work in at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to drafting or revising for content or style. If you choose an online appointment, you can meet with your tutor via Zoom or upload your draft to receive feedback asynchronously.

Whether you seek in-person or online help, you can expect a collaborative experience. Your tutor will ask lots of questions and help draw out your ideas. They may point to places where you can improve or ask questions about specific parts of the paper. You might do some hands-on work, such as creating an outline, revising a paragraph, or finding a new source.

What to Bring to Your Session:

  • Your assignment sheet/instructions
  • Your work, whether that be an outline, notes, or a draft of your paper
  • Any questions you have

Reading instructions strategically is an important step to getting started and doing well on any assignment. Therefore, it is crucial that you bring or submit your assignment sheet or prompt so the tutor can provide the best feedback possible for you. If you do not include this information, especially on your online appointment form, you will be asked to make another appointment.
