Examity Live Proctoring Student Resources

The Live Proctoring security level begins with live ID authentication and a 360᷾° sweep of the room and workstation, ensuring any unauthorized materials are removed before testing can proceed.  The live proctor oversees the entire session, from authentication to test completion, and are able to provide interactive support in real-time if necessary.  The exam session will be recorded from start to finish.  Upon exam completion, an Examity proctor and auditor will review both the authentication process and proctoring session. The recording and data will then be released to the instructor's dashboard.

Key Points

There are a couple key points to keep in mind when taking a Live Proctoring proctored exam:

  • This level uses live authentication by a proctor which improves the validity of the authentication process.  Additionally, since you are connected with a proctor you can ask them any initial technical questions you may have before they disconnect.
  • Examity uses room scans.  It will be conducted one-on-one with your proctor.  If you have any concerns about room scans, please contact your instructor.
  • You are always connected with a proctor.  Should you experience any technical issues, they can assist you.  If you are disconnected from the exam session, you must contact Examity directly.  Refer to our Examity Support page for contact information.
  • Only use Chrome web browser.
  • You must create your Examity profile and schedule your exam at least 24 hours in advance.  Any exceptions must be approved by the instructor as a "Scheduling Exception" in Examity for the specific exam and student.

Preparing for your Exam

  1. Find the Examity link for your course - The first step is to access Examity in your D2L course.  Instructors choose where to put the link so it may be different from course to course.  Look for it in its own module titled Examity or within the module that contains information about your exam(s).
  2. Set up your Examity student profile - If this is your first time using Examity, you will be directed to set up your student profile.  Profile set up takes approximately 5 minutes and is only done once.  You will not create a student profile for each course.  Review the Live Proctoring Test Taker Guide or Test-Taker Video (opens new window) and follow along with it to set up your Examity profile.  Create Your Profile in Four Easy Steps (opens new window)
  3. Make sure you have proper identification - While creating a profile and during your proctoring session you will be asked to show an APSU student or government issued ID to verify your identity.
  4. Schedule your exam - You must schedule your exam at least 24 hours in advance.  Any exceptions must be approved by the instructor as a "Scheduling Exception" in Examity for the specific exam and student.  The number of available proctors per time slot is limited so the earlier you schedule the better.  Review the Live Proctoring Test Taker Guide or Test-Taker Video (opens new window) and follow along with it to schedule your exam.
  5. Check your system - Run the Examity platform system check (opens new window) on whichever computer you will use to take your exam.  This will help ensure your computer is properly configured for online proctoring so that you can address any issues in advance.
    • While you can use an internet connection, please note the No. 1 issue students run into is unstable internet.  When possible, use a hardwired internet connection (cable connecting your computer and modem).
  6. Identify a place where you can take your exam - You will also need to take your exam in a quiet location where you can take the exam alone that does not contain any unapproved materials.  The exam space could be a room in your/family/friend home, office, private study room, etc.  You will be asked to show a 360 degree view of your workspace. The room scan is conducted one-on-one and guided by a live proctor.  If you have any concerns about participating in a room scan, please contact your instructor to discuss.

Please note: Students can begin their proctoring session up to 15 minutes early and they can be up to 30 minutes late for a scheduled exam session before they will lose their time slot.

In brief, taking your Examity online proctored exam includes:

  1. Accessing Examity - Open Chrome, select the Examity link in your D2L course.  Instructors choose where to put the link so it may be different from course to course.  Look for it in its own module titled Examity or within the module that contains information about your exam(s).

    • reviewing exam rules and the user agreement,
    • sharing your screen, and
    • connecting to the proctor and securing the testing space with a room scan.  Please understand the proctor does not know the content of your exam so they may ask you to remove or cover up items.
  3. Taking your exam - A live proctor oversees the entire session, from authentication to test completion, and they are able to provide interactive support in real-time if necessary.  The exam session will be recorded from start to finish.
