NEW Full Honor Orchestra Festival

Honor Full Orchestra Festival 2026 extended

We are excited announce to a new Full Orchestra Honor Festival for 7-12 strings and 10-12 woodwinds/brass/percussion. In a 2-day event, students will rehearse and perform full orchestra masterworks, alongside a new symphonic suite to the acclaimed video game The Baby in Yellow. In addition to working in the Full Orchestra Honors Orchestra, students will participate in a mock "Nashville Studio Recording Session" and learn more about video game composition.

This year's clinicians are Jen Drake (Music Director at Boise Youth Orchestra), Jacob Aaron Schnitzer (Director of Orchestral Activities at Austin Peay), recording artist David Shipps (Nashville Studio Orchestrator and Conductor), and video game composer-in-residence Virginia Leo (Composer of The Baby in Yellow) who will be working with both student performers and directors/teachers during the festival.

October – Applications open

Sunday, December 7 – Deadline for Wind/Brass/Percussion applications

Sunday, December 14 – Deadline for string applications

Wednesday, December 19 – Notification of acceptances

Sunday, January 18 – Deadline to finalize registration

Thursday, February 13 – 2025 Austin Peay Honor Full Orchestra Festival begins

This event will take place from the morning of Friday, February 13th until the afternoon of Saturday, February 14th. Details TBA.

All students applying are required to either be active in their local school band program, or not attending their local school (virtual/homeschool).

The application can be found here: APSU Honor Band and Full Orchestra Application – Fill out form. Your director or private teacher must be indicated and will be contacted to complete your application.

 

If you are notified of selection, you will have until January 18, 2026 to complete your registration, including the $60 nonrefundable registration fee, which includes lunch and dinner on Friday.

 

10-12 woodwinds/brass/percussion may apply with one application to both the Honors Band and Honors Full Orchestra (Feb 26-28) – simply check the boxes indicating that your application is for both festivals.

As explained in the section above, applications will be initiated by the individual student. As part of that application, they will provide contact information for a director or private teacher, who must complete the brief recommendation in order for the student to be considered. Recommendations forms will be sent to directors/teachers after the closing of December 7 or 14, and will be due by December 14 for winds/brass/percussion.
