Honors Faculty Fellows

The Honors Faculty Fellows Program is an opportunity for faculty across campus to participate in the leadership and development of the Honors College and its programs. The Honors College brings students together from all majors and departments on campus, so it is important to maintain oversight with an interdisciplinary team.  

Honors Faculty Fellows will:

• Participate in curricular development, events, and advising in the Honors College.
• Teach honors sections of general education courses, innovative honors courses, and/ or "hidden" honors courses in their disciplines.
• Value interdisciplinary and experiential learning.
• Cultivate a vibrant intellectual community.

Preferred scholarly values: 

• Provide hand-on classroom experiences for students through community service, global education, internships, and undergraduate research.
• Classroom rigor, integrity, and excellence.
• Professional growth and development of students.
• Intellectual curiosity and critical thinking.
• Collaboration and teamwork.

Responsibilities:

• Teach 2 Honors classes per semester (HON, honor's section of general education, or "hidden" honor courses)
• Teach at least 1 section of HON 1000 each Fall semester.
• Serve on the Honors College Curriculum Committee.
• Assist in adjunct observations of teaching.
• Participate in Honors College events.
• Represent the Honors College in recruiting events.

Term of Service:

Each Faculty Fellow will serve a two year term. At the end of a term, a faculty fellow may apply to another two year term. There are no term limits.

Qualifications

Required:

• Must be either tenured or tenure-track faculty.
• Must have scheduling flexibility to teach in the Honors Program.
• Must have approval of Department Chair.

Preferred:

• Experience engaging with students through high impact practices and/or co-curricular activities.
• If pre-tenure, have successfully completed at least one year on tenure-track.

Selection Process

Interested faculty will submit a brief application packet (with four attachments) to honors@apsu.edu that includes:

1. A statement of purpose addressing:

   • Why you want to become an Honors Faculty Fellow

   • How your experience contributes to the Honors Program

   • How your values are aligned with the Faculty Fellows position

2. A current copy of your Curriculum Vitae

3. A one-sentence statement of support from your Department Chair

Timeline: Applications close 1 November 2026. Decisions will be made and candidates notified by 15 November 2026. The term of service will begin in August 2027.
