Verify Your Enrollment

Certain VA benefit chapters require you to verify your enrollment directly with the VA each month. The VA will not issue your monthly payment until you verify. This is separate from submitting the CRF with our office — it is a step you take directly with the VA.

Who Needs to Verify

Monthly enrollment verification is required for students receiving benefits under:

  • Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) — students receiving the monthly housing allowance

  • Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (Chapter 30)

  • Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606)

  • Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (Chapter 35)

You must verify on the last day of each month for which benefits are to be paid. If you miss a verification, your payment will be delayed until you complete it.

Students using Post-9/11 GI Bill® for tuition only (no housing allowance), and students under Chapter 31 VR&E, do not use this verification process — payment is handled separately through school certification or counselor authorization.

How to Verify

The VA offers several verification methods. Choose whichever works best for you.

Sign in to VA.gov using a verified Login.gov or ID.me account and verify your enrollment through the online tool. You will confirm your credit hours and enrollment start and end dates for the month.

When you start your program, the VA will send you a text asking if you want to verify by text each month. Reply "yes" to opt in. Once enrolled, you will receive a monthly text asking you to confirm your enrollment.

To update your phone number or opt out of text verification, call the VA at 1-888-442-4551 (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. ET).

If you opt out of text messages, the VA will send a monthly email to the address on file with your VA account. Verify by responding to the email.

Call the VA at 1-888-442-4551 (TTY: 711), Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. ET.

Submit your enrollment verification through Ask VA. Include the dates of your enrollment in your message.

After You Verify

Direct deposit payments typically arrive within 2–3 business days after verification. If your payment does not arrive within that window, contact the VA at 1-888-442-4551 or through Ask VA.

If Your Enrollment Changes

If you make any changes to your enrollment — adding or dropping courses — notify the APSU Veterans Education Benefits office promptly. Changes affect the enrollment information we certified to the VA, which in turn affects your payment amount.

See Attendance & Enrollment Changes for details on how enrollment changes can affect your benefit payment.
