Important Dates
These are the VA-specific deadlines that govern each term. The dates below are relative windows — the actual calendar dates vary by semester and are published in the APSU Academic Calendar.
Missing a deadline can delay your VA payment, result in late fees from APSU, or prevent your enrollment from being certified for that term. If you are unsure whether you will meet a deadline, contact the Veterans Education Benefits office.
Advance Payment Request
Deadline: 60–90 days before the first day of classes
If you want to receive your first benefit payment before the term starts, your advance payment request must be submitted at least 60–90 days before the first day of classes.
Advance payment is not automatic — you must request it. Missing this window means your payment will arrive on the standard schedule after the term begins.
VA Fee Deferment
Available: at least 30 days before the first day of classes
If your VA payment has not been received by APSU's billing deadline, a VA fee deferment protects you from late fees while your benefit processes. Deferments become available approximately 30 days before the first day of classes.
Certification Request Form (CRF)
The CRF is the form you submit to our office each term so we can certify your enrollment to the VA. There are two key deadlines:
Priority deadline: End of the pre-registration period (continuing students)
Continuing students who submit their CRF by the end of pre-registration give our office time to certify your enrollment before the term starts — helping ensure your VA payment arrives on time.
Final deadline: 14th day of classes
The 14th day of classes is the absolute cutoff for CRF submission. Enrollment cannot be certified to the VA after this date for that term.
Academic Calendar
Specific start dates, end dates, pre-registration periods, and fee deadlines for each term are published in the APSU Academic Calendar.
