1.8 – Access for Students with Disabilities

A qualified individual with a disability must be ensured the same access to programs, opportunities, and activities at the University as all others. All programs, services, and activities of the University will be accessible to a usable by qualified students with disabilities.

Accommodations are academic adjustments or auxiliary aids that provide equal access to programs and services. A few examples are print and audio materials in alternate formats, extended time for taking an exam, recording a lecture, or having a note-taker and assistive technology to read and navigate a computer.

Accommodations are determined based on a review of submitted documentation from the health care provider for its appropriateness and completeness under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and as amended in 2008, and the Disability Student Success Center documentation policy. For more information visit Disability Student Success Center's website.

Students participating in flight labs must possess an FAA 2nd Class Medical Certificate. Students with disabilities desiring to participate in flight training must submit a request evaluation for the purposes of obtaining a waiver. These individuals must request a Statement of Demonstrated Abilities (SODA). This process can be started through your Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).
