Student Assessment, Program Evaluation, and Annual Report

The Graduate Counseling Program faculty at Austin Peay State University teach our students the important process of self-assessment, self-reflection, and ongoing professional development.  In accordance with this practice, and the counseling profession, it is imperative that counselor education programs undergo a continuous process of evaluation and ongoing improvement.  To this end, we systematically assess student progress and program effectiveness.  Below is a description of these assessment processes and the measures utilized in student assessment and program evaluation.

The Graduate Counseling Program engages in systematic and ongoing student assessment.  The purpose of this assessment is to ensure students master the counseling competencies as identified by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Program (CACREP).  To this end, Counseling Program faculty have created; 1) Assessment Milestone Decision Points, 2) Key Learning Objectives Assessment (KLOA) measures, 3) program concentration specific Competency Rubrics that align with the 2016 CACREP Standards, and 4) the Student Progress Assessment.  These assessments ensure that the counseling program is continually monitoring program effectiveness, students’ knowledge, skills and personal/professional dispositions as they progress through the milestone decision points.  To review the assessment measures we use to evaluate students’ knowledge, skills and personal/professional dispositions click on the assessment measures below:

The Graduate Counseling Program faculty use multiple measures to assess program effectiveness and outcomes in a continuing effort to monitor program efficacy in meeting not only the educational and training needs of our students but through their development, the needs of our diverse society as a whole. These measures include; 1) application, admission, and enrollment data, 2) an annual analysis of student assessment data (described in the previous section), 3) Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) data, 4) Field Experience Site Supervisor ratings, 5) comprehensive, and licensure examinations scores, 6) graduation, completion, and employment data, and alumni, site supervisor, and employer survey data.
