President's Leadership Development Program
The mission of the President’s Leadership Development Program is to enhance the employee experience and support student success by developing campus leaders, promoting multi-divisional collaboration, and providing actionable solutions to identified opportunities and challenges at APSU.
The vision of this program aims to cultivate knowledgeable and empowered leaders at every level of our organization by providing exceptional leadership development opportunities that inspire growth, collaboration, and excellence. Our program is dedicated to equipping faculty and staff with the skills and vision to drive innovation, enhance university culture, and lead with integrity and purpose.

This comprehensive program is designed to develop campus leaders, promote multi-divisional collaboration, and provide actionable solutions to identified opportunities and challenges at APSU. It should be acknowledged there are already beneficial leadership development programs being offered at APSU. For example, The Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence (CAFE) has a long-standing Faculty Leadership Program. Various colleges and departments on campus offer internal programming to their faculty and staff.
The President’s Leadership Development Program is not intended to supplant or subsume those initiatives. The difference in this leadership program is that it will include participants from each of the President’s Senior Leadership Team’s offices and will serve as a launching pad for cross-divisional collaborations culminating with a selected project initiative that the leaders can implement yearly at APSU.
Participants will meet regularly to engage in discussions centered on leadership theories, approaches, and skill acquisition, skill application; along with gaining a better understanding of the campus community and culture. By the end of the program, participants will select a campus-wide challenge or opportunity, research alternative approaches/solutions, and work collectively to provide an actionable plan addressing the selected opportunity/challenge.
Initiative Focus
Student Success can be defined as a measure of student engagement and positive outcomes in several ways. Some factors include academic achievement, graduation rates, course completion, retention rates, or student advancement. In higher education, every campus member plays a significant role in the success of all students. The campus leaders will develop a plan of implementation for a small project to happen annually on our campus that can hopefully provide institutional support to an innovative idea to help students have a fulfilling university experience at Austin Peay State University.
Initiative Development
The initiative will be submitted as a written proposal with a budget from any campus member. The budget should not exceed $5,000.00, and the division/department should be able to match the funds requested. The initiative can be something such as a one-day event or an ongoing project, with the understanding that the Leader Scholars are only there for the implementation and support of the event and are not required to carry on the project. For implementation, the project must be assigned to other leaders within each division/department.
