Laicee Blackwell (They/Them) is a non-binary, transdisciplinary visual artist
whose work is a reflection on queer adolescence, romance, and being through
an imagined personal history. Currently, their practice encompasses
processes within weaving, photography, and sculpture to explore nostalgia,
longing, identity, and a regionally influenced queer experience. Laicee’s work
has been shown in exhibitions around the country, including invitations to
exhibit at Praxis & Practice: Digital Weaving Exhibition 2023 in conjunction
with the first International Praxis & Practice: Digital Weaving Conference, and
the second Mighty Real Queer Detroit Biennial Exhibition. They also have
upcoming solo exhibitions at the Indianapolis Art Center and Massillon
Museum. They hold a Bachelor of Science in Studio Art with an Emphasis in
Sculpture from the University of Southern Indiana and a Masters of Fine Arts in
Sculpture and Expanded Media from Kent State University. At Kent State, they
were the Instructor of Record for the Introduction to Sculptural Practices
course. They also taught Art History courses at the University of Evansville.
Now, Laicee is the Studio Technician at Austin Peay State University.
