LPN to BSN Pathway

A faster path from LPN to BSN for qualified TCAT students.

Beginning fall 2026, the APSU School of Nursing is launching a new LPN to BSN pathway designed to help eligible students move from practical nursing training into a bachelor's degree in just three years instead of four. The program begins with an initial cohort of 20 students.

Program Overview

The LPN to BSN pathway is designed for qualified students from TCAT Dickson’s Practical Nursing program who want to continue their education and prepare for registered nurse roles through APSU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The pathway provides a structured transition from LPN preparation into baccalaureate nursing education, positioning graduates to sit for the NCLEX-RN and pursue professional registered nurse roles.

Why This Pathway Matters

  • Complete your BSN in three years instead of four

  • Build on your existing LPN education and professional experience

  • Move toward expanded career opportunities in nursing

  • Prepare for professional RN roles in complex healthcare settings

Prior Learning Credit

Eligible students may receive prior learning assessment (PLA) credit and course substitutions based on TCAT coursework, transcript review, and documented prior learning or professional experience.

  • 27 total PLA credit hours available

  • Course substitutions through the articulation crosswalk

  • Up to 16 semester hours tied to LPN coursework and experience

  • 11 credit hours awarded after successful completion of NURS 2001 Transitions to Professional Nursing Practice for LPNs

Student Support

Students receive individualized advising, progression monitoring, and structured support from the time of admission through graduation. A designated coordinator and nursing faculty provide mentorship and check-ins throughout the program to help students stay on track with academic and clinical milestones.

Cost

Students are responsible for APSU tuition, mandatory fees, course-specific fees, and nursing-related expenses including labs, clinical requirements, textbooks, and materials. Tuition and fees are subject to change. For current rates, view APSU tuition and fees.

Curriculum

Students complete required prerequisite and major core coursework before entering upper-division nursing courses in the BSN program. Credit for prior learning and approved course substitutions are evaluated according to APSU policy and the articulation agreement.
