Closures

The decision to close the University is based on analysis of current conditions by the National Weather Service, local weather outlets and information provided to University officials by city, county and state entities on road conditions. Additionally, an assessment of on-campus conditions is provided to University administrators by campus police patrols and physical plant personnel.

Occasionally personnel at Ft. Campbell initiate an emergency closing of the post, thus closing the APSU at Ft. Campbell campus while APSU’s Clarksville campus may remain open. If the University decides to close the Clarksville campus, APSU at Ft. Campbell will close even when Army officials decide to keep the military post open.

Notifications

A delay in opening or a closing after an overnight storm will be announced by a phone recording on the main campus line (931) 221-7011, posting at www.apsu.edu, through APSU Alert text messaging system, email, social media and area radio and television stations. Only the Public Relations and Marketing personnel are authorized to post emergency messages about closures or schedule changes, after being notified by the President, the Vice President for Finance and Administration or the Campus Police Chief.

If a decision is made to close campus during the day (an early closure), the information will be disseminated using the same methods above.

Employee Information

The University has several employees and students commuting from outside Montgomery County where weather conditions can be drastically different. With this in mind, it is up to individuals to use their own judgment for commuting to campus when the weather may be hazardous in the area in which you reside. However, unless the campus officially closes, employees will be required to take appropriate leave if they decide to not report to work or leave early due to weather or dangerous conditions that may prohibit travel in the area in which they reside. Consult with your manager or contact Human Resources if you have questions.

Weather Conditions

APSU Snow Day:

A school closed due to snow day will be decided by the Provost, the President, and Assistant V.P. for Public Safety. This decision is made as early as possible to allow faculty, staff, and commuter students to prepare. If campus is closed due to snow or winter weather, dining halls and residence halls will remain open. The Physical Plant staff will begin to clear pathways from residence halls to dining halls first, then begin to clear the rest of campus.
