Initial Educator Licensure Programs (Pre-K to 12)

The Tennessee Department of Education approves programs for licensure. Austin Peay State University has been approved to offer 25 initial teaching endorsements.

The programs offered are subject to change based on the standards revision by the Eriksson College of Education or the Tennessee Department of Education. If a licensure area does not appear below, it is not an approved program offered at APSU.

• Integrated Early Childhood, Pre-K to Grade 3
• Elementary School, Grades K-5
• Middle School, Grades 6-8 (Mathematics)
• Middle School, Grades 6-8 (Science)
• Middle School, Grades 6-8 (Social Studies)
• Special Education, Grades K-8 Interventionist
• Special Education, Grades K-12 Comprehensive
• Special Education, Grades 6-12 Interventionist

 

High School

To become licensed to teach high school, you will major in the subject you want to teach. You will minor in Professional Education.

We offer high school teaching licensure programs in the following content areas: 

• High School, Grades 6-12 (English)
• High School, Grades 6-12 (History)(Includes Geography, Political Science and Economics)
• High School, Grades 6-12 (Mathematics)
• High School, Grades 6-12 (Secondary Biology Education)
• High School, Grades 6-12 (Secondary Chemistry Education)
• High School, Grades 6-12 (Secondary Earth Science Education)

 

Art, Music, or Physical Education

To become licensed to teach art, music, or physical education, you will major in the subject you want to teach. You will minor in Professional Education.

We offer licensure in the following areas:

• K-12 (Art)
• K-12 Health and Human Performance (Physical Education)
• K-12 Music Education (General/Instrumental)
• K-12 Music Education (Choral/General)
