Submission Guidelines

The Red Mud Review is dedicated to promoting the creative works of emerging writers and artists from Tennessee and beyond. The editors welcome submissions of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, visual art, and photography.

All submissions should be emailed to redmud-submissions@apsu.edu and include a brief bio written in third person. Please allow 3-4 weeks for a response from one of the editors on your submission. Acceptable file types for written submissions: .pdf, .doc, .docx. Visual art/photography submissions must be in .jpg format, 2100 pixels on the longest side (6MB or less). Email redmudeditor@apsu.edu with any questions.

General Submission Guidelines: 

• All submissions must be previously unpublished, including on personal blogs, social media, and/or websites.
• We accept simultaneous submissions, but if your work is accepted elsewhere, please notify us immediately by replying to your original submission email.
• We do not accept AI-generated submissions.
• All works must be ready to be published and free of errors.
• All submissions MUST include a brief bio and cover letter that includes contact information (name, city/state, phone number, and email). Bios must be written in third person. Submissions that do not include a bio will not be considered.
• The subject line of the submission email should indicate the category (Poetry, Art, World Language, etc.) and include the title(s) of the piece(s).
• We accept submissions in multiple categories from the same writer/artist but require separate submission emails for each category.
• We do accept international submissions; if international submissions contain languages other than English, please see the World Language submission guidelines below.
• If your work is accepted for publication, you grant Red Mud ReviewFirst North American serial rights; after publication, the rights revert back to the author. You also grant Red Mud Review the right to display the work or a portion of the work on our website, within Red Mud Review publications, and in promotional or marketing materials. All other rights remain yours as the sole owner of the work, including the right to offer the work for subsequent publication in an anthology.
