Executive Committee Office Descriptions
The Faculty Senate Executive Committee (EC) is made up of nine elected and appointed positions, each carrying distinct responsibilities within shared governance at Austin Peay State University.
President
The Faculty Senate President represents the faculty, coordinates the Senate's day-to-day functions, and presides over Executive Committee and full Faculty Senate meetings. The President serves as the primary liaison between faculty and administration, conferring regularly with the University President, Provost, and other institutional leaders throughout the academic year.
Vice President/President Elect
The Vice President/President Elect supports the Senate President and steps in as presiding officer in the President's absence. This position chairs the Faculty Senate Rules Committee, manages all Senate elections — including the fall interim election and the spring election — and is elected with the expectation of succeeding to the Presidency.
Immediate Past President
The Immediate Past President is the most recent former Faculty Senate President, serving on the EC in a non-voting advisory capacity. This role provides continuity and institutional memory during leadership transitions, advises the President and Vice President on matters of governance and procedure, and chairs the Faculty Senate EC Slate Committee.
Secretary
The Faculty Senate Secretary ensures accurate, timely documentation and communication across all Senate business. Responsibilities include preparing and distributing agendas and minutes, maintaining Faculty Senate web content, managing meeting scheduling and calendar invitations, and preserving official Senate records to support governance continuity.
Treasurer
The Faculty Senate Treasurer manages the Senate's allocated budget and financial records. Responsibilities include monitoring annual spending, processing reimbursements for Senate members, serving as liaison to the University's Budget Review Committee, and coordinating payment for awards and Senate events throughout the year.
Provost's Council Representative
The Provost's Council Representative serves as the Faculty Senate's voice in Provost's Council deliberations. This position attends all Provost's Council meetings, represents faculty perspectives on academic policies, curriculum, and budgetary matters, and reports Council actions back to the full Faculty Senate at each monthly meeting.
University Curriculum Committee Representative
The University Curriculum Committee (UCC) Representative attends all UCC meetings, advocates for Faculty Senate perspectives in curricular discussions, and reports committee actions to the full Senate. The representative also works with the Secretary to ensure UCC reports are posted to the Faculty Senate website for faculty review.

Parliamentarian
The Parliamentarian is appointed by the Senate President, in consultation with the EC, from among full-time faculty who are not current senators. This ex-officio position provides expert guidance on Robert's Rules of Order, the Senate constitution, and bylaws — helping the President keep meetings orderly, fair, and on track. The Parliamentarian serves with a voice but no vote on the EC.
Faculty Trustee
The APSU Board of Trustees Faculty Trustee is an elected, tenured Full Professor who serves as a voting member of the APSU Board of Trustees. Within the Faculty Senate, the Faculty Trustee participates in EC meetings in a non-voting, ex officio capacity — creating a direct governance link between Board-level decisions and faculty governance by reporting Board actions to the Senate each month.
