CECA Partnerships in the Arts
The Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA) at Austin Peay State University partners with various arts programs to support and celebrate creativity throughout Tennessee.
Art + Design Partnership
In collaboration with the Department of Art + Design, CECA offers:
-
The CECA Visiting Artist Speaker Series features lectures and exhibitions from accomplished regional, national, and international professional artists
-
Up to six professional exhibitions in the New Gallery each year
The Art and Design faculty are practicing artists with national and international recognition. Students learn from these experts, adjunct professionals, and visiting artists who work with students in classroom and workshop settings.
APSU Gallery Spaces
APSU provides extensive exposure to unique, contemporary, and traditional art through several exhibition spaces:
-
The New Gallery opened in Fall 2017 as part of the Art + Design building, featuring contemporary art by international artists
-
The Barbara Beech Student Gallery in the Art + Design building showcases rotating student exhibits
-
The Living Gallery provides dedicated space for student creative research in the Art + Design Building
-
The Jenkins Gallery on the second floor of the Morgan University Center displays the Ned and Jacqueline Crouch Folk Art Collection
-
The University Art Collection includes over 3,000 pieces displayed throughout campus, with a significant portion in the Art + Design building
CECA Tennessee Artist Fellowship
The CECA Tennessee Artist Fellowship was created to celebrate contemporary art and support the continued creative work of exceptional Tennessee artists. Unlike other fellowships, nominations and applications from artists are not solicited. A committee of APSU Art + Design faculty compiles a list of outstanding artists from across the state and selects the fellowship recipient. The selected artist receives $5,000 to aid in the creation of new artwork.
Current Fellowship Recipient (2024-2025)
Stacy Kranitz (Smithville, TN) - Photographer documenting life in the Appalachian region. Kranitz's work acknowledges the limits of photographic representation while forcefully conveying the complexity of the lives, places, and moments they depict.
Chautauqua Visual Arts
CECA partners with Chautauqua Visual Arts to provide opportunities for artistic development and exhibition.
