APSU History and Philosophy in the News

PHI ALPHA THETA REGIONAL CONFERENCE

The History & Philosophy Department would like to thank all those who assisted in making the 2009 Tennessee Regional Phi Alpha Theta Conference, held on February 28, 2009, a great success. We are especially grateful to Dr. Minoa Uffelman, APSU's Phi Alpha Theta Chapter Advisor, for her hard work and dedication to our history students. In addition, the Theta-Delta officers, President Denise Richards, Vice-President Julia Dittrich, and Secretary Leslie Crouch, went out of their way to ensure a smooth, well-organized conference, well-staffed with student volunteers who represented the best qualities of Austin Peay State University Studentbody.

We are also pleased to note that three of our History majors won awards for their paper presentations:

M.A. student Ron Martz, for his paper entitled, "Deconstructing de-Ba’athification: How Ignoring Lessons Learned from the de-Nazification of Germany and the Governance of Japan After World War II Ignited the Iraqi Insurgency,"

Undergraduate student Michael Ramsey, for his paper entitled, "A Numerous and Unexpected Enemy,"

Undergraduate student Eric Turner, for his paper entitled, "Small Boat Operations in Long Island Sound, 1775-1779."
