Staff Senate Initiatives

During the year, Staff Senate focuses on different campus-wide initiatives. Below are just a few of those initiatives:

Foy Fitness Challenge

The Staff Senate and Faculty Senate are squaring off at the Foy this month to see which group all staff or all faculty can log more time at the Foy until February 28. Join your friends and co-workers to see which group wins the challenge! When you go to the Foy, tell the front desk attendant if you are a member of staff or faculty. Then go hit the track, lift weights, take an awesome class, shoot some hoops and get into the fitness fun!

APSU will observe a year-round business casual dress with the stipulation that business attire will be expected when the occasion requires it. According to the University dress code, business casual states that it includes khaki pants, slacks, and skirts, as well as short-sleeved polo shirts and long-sleeved shirts, but excludes "jeans, tennis shoes, tight or short skirts, t-shirts, and sweatshirts". Employees are expected to use good judgment and wear clothing that is appropriate for a professional setting. When meeting with visitors from outside the University, or when the University is hosting special groups or guests, employees are expected to dress appropriately for the occasion.

Designated jean days are subject to the permission of your supervisor.  In addition, although Physical Plant employees are required to wear a uniform, they will be able to wear casual dress clothes on designated jeans days. All staff employees are allowed to wear APSU logo t-shirts/sweatshirts on designated jeans days. No ripped and/or torn jeans, halter tops, or flip-flops.

Jeans may be worn:

1.  Fridays during the school year (August - May).

2.  Fall, Winter and Spring Breaks.

3.  Days when no classes are held (e.g. Study Day).

4.  During APSU Homecoming week with APSU apparel.

5.  During the summer months following the end of spring commencement through the day before the beginning of fall Semester.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  NO JEANS MAY BE WORN ON ANY COMMENCEMENT DAY.  COMMENCEMENTS ARE HELD DURING FALL, SPRING AND SUMMER.

The ability to offer remote and hybrid work during this pandemic provided our faculty and staff an opportunity to remain safe and better manage family responsibilities while continuing to contribute to our mission. With our campus reopening, the presence of many faculty and staff employees who were able to work remotely now is essential to providing support and services to students, employees or other on-campus business operations.
