Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Sustainability focuses on developing a student’s ability to identify and analyze real-world environmental problems and to propose practical sustainable solutions to those problems through interdisciplinary learning acquired in completing courses in Geography, Agriculture, Biology, and Sustainability.  Through this interdisciplinary approach to learning, student will also gain an understanding of the impact human activity has on ecosystems and the planet regarding sustainable and unsustainable resources.

The program consists of nine credit hours with two core courses in sustainability and one elective course.

 

Admission Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, conferred in a science field, from accredited institutions indicating a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5

Admission decision by department.

What opportunities are available with this certificate? 

Sustainability is a diverse career field that includes a wide variety of professionals such as business managers, scientists, engineers; or other types of professionals.  Although their specific career paths might differ, sustainability professionals promote environmental protection, social responsibility, and profitability.  The certificate program allow students to build their skills and credentials in sustainability in order to help them obtain jobs in their professions that require some educational background in the area of sustainability.  Data from professional organization indicate that the job outlook for suitability-related jobs is bright because sustainability is increasingly becoming a critical part of business strategy and operations.
