Why the Post-Secondary Mathematics Instruction Certificate
The Mathematics Instruction Graduate Certificate is ideal for certified teachers with a previously earned master’s degree in any discipline who wish to become qualified to teach high school dual enrollment mathematics courses or college-level mathematics courses as an adjunct. This program does not lead to initial licensure for teaching mathematics.
With a mix of online and on-campus courses, the Mathematics Instruction Graduate Certificate will immerse you in advanced mathematics coursework to enhance the teaching of mathematics.
The certificate in mathematics instruction consists of 18 credit hours of graduate
level mathematics that deepens and broadens the individual’s knowledge of advanced
mathematics topics. The student may choose from a broad array of courses in mathematics,
statistics, data science, and mathematical finance. The certificate, combined with
a master’s degree in another discipline, would qualify an individual to teach post-secondary
mathematics or statistics courses. In particular, they could serve as dual enrollment
or adjunct instructors of mathematics or statistics at an institution of higher education.
Students who earn the Mathematics Instruction Graduate Certificate teach advanced
mathematics courses in high schools or teach college-level mathematics courses at
a community college or university.
