APSU This Week: Austin Peay to celebrate homecoming all week long

Homecoming Week at Austin Peay starts Monday night with the bonfire, pep rally and court announcement at 7 p.m. at the Dunn Bowl and culminates with Homecoming Step Show at the Foy Recreation Center.
The highlight of the week, of course, is when the Governors host UT Martin at 3 p.m. at Fortera Stadium. The stakes are high at the game – two teams will be in a battle for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference.
The theme for Homecoming Week is “Govs on Broadway.” Here’s the week’s schedule:
- Monday, Nov. 4.
- 7 p.m.: Bonfire, pep rally and court announcement at Dunn Bowl.
- 7:45 p.m.: SGA T-shirt giveaway at Dunn Bowl.
- Tuesday, Nov. 5.
- Noon: Homecoming Hangout at Morgan University Center Plaza.
- 7 p.m.: Comedy show at the Foy.
- Wednesday, Nov. 6.
- 9 a.m.: Campus spirit judging at various locations.
- Noon: T-shirt swap at MUC Plaza.
- 3 p.m.: Gov Tug at Intramural Field.
- Thursday, Nov. 7.
- Noon: Throwback Thursday Mystery Event at MUC Plaza.
- 7 p.m.: Govs Got Talent at the Foy.
- Friday, Nov. 8.
- Noon: Music Chairs Contest at MUC Plaza.
- 7 p.m.: Smash! Bang! Lip sync contest at the Foy.
- Saturday, Nov. 9:
- 10 a.m.: Homecoming Parade.
- 3 p.m.: Governors vs. UT Martin.
- 8 p.m.: NPHC Homecoming Step Show at the Foy.

Homecoming parade to celebrate Governors and our veterans
Austin Peay’s 74th annual homecoming parade on Saturday, Nov. 9, will celebrate two treasures dear to APSU hearts: our veterans and the Governors.
The Veterans Homecoming Parade will start at 10 a.m. at the corner of College and Eighth streets. The parade – which this year combines with the Clarksville-Montgomery County Veterans Day Parade – is free and open to the public and will have more than 150 entries.
Festivities such as Stache Street and Tailgate Alley will follow the parade, and the 2019 homecoming game – in which the Govs host Tennessee Martin – kicks off at 3 p.m.

Basketball teams to open season on Tuesday, Nov. 5
Things tip-off for real Tuesday night at the Dunn Center. That's when the Govs host Oakland City in the regular season opener around 8 p.m., following the women’s opener set to tip at 5:30 p.m. Oakland City will be Austin Peay’s home opener for the fourth straight season and fifth time since 2013-14. The women’s team hosts Kentucky Wesleyan.
APSU adds new wrinkle to November’s Science on Tap
Austin Peay State University’s Science on Tap – which is set to return 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Strawberry Alley Ale Works – is adding an important element to November’s event.
Attendees can request a certificate of attendance for professional development hours or continuing education units, which will help professionals meet their annual training requirements.
The topic for November’s Science on Tap will be “Sinkholes & Limestone & Caves, Oh My!”, an exploration led by APSU geosciences professor Dr. Kallina Dunkle about a common geological feature in the area: sinkholes.

Iranian multidisciplinary artist Raheleh Filsoofi to speak on campus
The Department of Art + Design, with support from the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is pleased to welcome Iranian ceramicist/video artist Raheleh Filsoofi to Austin Peay State University.
Filsoofi’s lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the Art + Design building’s Room 120. Her lecture will open with a special performance by Reza Filsoofi, an instrumentalist, singer and composer specializing in Iranian music.

‘Do it’ exhibit continues
Austin Peay State University’s 10-week run of the international “do it” exhibit continues at The New Gallery in the Art + Design building on campus. The exhibit runs through Dec. 6.
“Do it” is a 26-year global phenomenon that is a compendium of 400 written instructions by artists interpreted anew every time they are enacted. The New Gallery will have 22 sets of instructions by artists such as Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Adrian Piper, Yoko Ono, Alison Knowles, Sol LeWitt, David Lynch and Joan Jonas.
