Languages and Literature Scholarships
The Judge William O. Beach Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship will be awarded to a rising junior majoring in English. The recipient
will be chosen on the basis of academic ability. An ACT Composite score of at least
24 is required. Financial need may also be considered. Award is for one year; recipient
must reapply each year and maintain an annual minimum 3.0 GPA. Recipient will be chosen
by the Scholarship Committee of the Department of Languages and Literature. No applications

J.D. Lester Scholarship for Outstanding Undergraduate Writing
The recipient will be chosen by the scholarship committee of the Department of Language
and Literature. The recipient must be a junior or senior in good standing academically
and majoring in English demonstrating outstanding talent in expositore (scholarly)
writing. The student must submit a scholarly expository essay for evaluation by the
Languages and Literature scholarship committee.

Foreign Language Scholarships
Clairborne-Woodward Scholarship in Languages and Literature
The Clairborne-Woodward Scholarship was established by the Claiborne family of Texas
and several other local contributors in memory of Professor Felix Woodward. Funds
are provided to a student majoring or minoring in Communication Arts (with a focus
on Journalism), Writing, French, German, Latin, or Spanish. Recipient must attain
junior or senior status. Recipients may reapply.

Edelweiss Club of Clarksville German Scholarship
The Edelweiss Club of Clarksville established this scholarship for a junior or senior
German major or minor. Applicants should write an essay including a statement of
academic interest and financial need (300 words). Recipient is chosen on the basis
of academic ability. Financial need may be a secondary consideration. Award is renewable,
but recipient must reapply.

J.T. and Kathleen K. Oxford Scholarship in Spanish
Established in 2005 by Dr. Jeffery and Raquel Oxford, alumnus of Austin Peay, the
focus of this award is on student majoring in Spanish or Foreign Languages with Spanish
Specialization. The qualified candidate is chosen on the basis of academic potential
and financial need. Preference is given to a first-time generation college student
(may be awarded to someone who is not a first-generation college student if no qualified
first-generation student is identified). Recipient must attain a 3.0 GPA and an academic
status of "Good Standing" with the University. Award is one-time; however, recipient
may reapply in subsequent years.
