Your 4-Step Guide to the Financial Aid Process
Navigating financial aid can feel complex, but we've broken it down into a simple, 4-step process. Whether you're applying for the first time or are a returning student, follow this guide from application to disbursement to ensure you complete all the necessary tasks.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the only application you need to be considered for most federal and state aid.
The Financial Aid Process
Step 1: Apply for Aid
This is the starting point for every student, every year. Complete the FAFSA to determine your eligibility for federal and state grants, loans, and work-study. We also have key information for transfer students.
Step 2: Review Your Award Status
After we receive your FAFSA, your next stop is AP OneStop. Learn how to check your application status, complete the "Verification" process if selected, and understand the difference between the types of aid you've been offered.
Go to Step 2: Review Your Status
Step 3: Accept Your Aid & Complete Requirements
You've reviewed your offer—now it's time to take action. This step guides you through officially accepting (or declining) your aid, providing your e-consent, and completing the required Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) for student loans.
Step 4: Receive Your Funds & Maintain Eligibility
Your aid is accepted. What's next? Set up direct deposit to get your refund the fastest way possible. Most importantly, learn the rules for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) so you can keep your financial aid in future semesters.
