Step 3: Accept Your Aid & Complete Requirements
This is the most important action step. After reviewing your award in Step 2, you must now officially accept or decline your aid. You must also provide one-time electronic consent and, if you are a new loan borrower, complete additional federal requirements.
Follow these tasks in order to ensure your aid is processed correctly.
Task 1: Provide Voluntary E-Consent (One-Time Setup)
Before you can accept your aid online, federal regulations require you to provide one-time voluntary consent to receive communications electronically.
-
Log in to your AP OneStop portal.
-
Select the "Web Self Service" tab, then "Financial Aid."
-
Select the correct "Aid Year."
-
Click on the "Offer" tab.
-
A pop-up box for "Voluntary Consent" will appear. Read the information and check the box to confirm "I acknowledge these terms and conditions."
-
Click Submit. You will only need to do this once per aid year.
Task 2: Accept, Reduce, or Decline Your Aid
After providing consent, you will be on the "Offer" screen. Here you will see a list of your awards.
-
Grants and Scholarships are considered "Gift Aid" (money you don't repay) and are often automatically accepted for you.
-
Federal Work-Study must be "Accepted" or "Declined" from the dropdown menu.
-
Federal Student Loans must be "Accepted" or "Declined."
-
You do not have to accept the full amount offered. You can accept a partial amount by entering a lower number in the box.
IMPORTANT: If you are eligible for both, you must accept your full Subsidized Loan offer before you can accept any Unsubsidized Loan funds.
-
Remember, loans are split evenly between the Fall and Spring semesters. The amount you accept is for the entire academic year.
-
-
Once you have made your decisions, click "Submit."
-
By clicking "Submit," you are acknowledging and agreeing to the official Financial Aid Terms and Conditions.
Task 3: Required for All First-Time Loan Borrowers
If you accepted a Federal Direct Loan (Subsidized or Unsubsidized) and are a first-time borrower at APSU, you must complete two final requirements at StudentAid.gov.
CRITICAL: Your student loans will not pay to your account (disburse) until you complete both of these items.
-
Complete Entrance Counseling: This is a 20-30 minute online tutorial that explains your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower.
-
Sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN): This is the legal, binding document where you promise to repay your student loans. This note is good for 10 years.
You will log in to StudentAid.gov using the same FSA ID you used for the FAFSA.
Task 4: Report All Outside Scholarships & Resources
Your total financial aid (including outside scholarships, fee waivers, etc.) cannot exceed your total Cost of Attendance. You are required to report all outside aid to our office.
-
Action: Complete the Financial Aid Additional Resource Form for the appropriate aid year.
-
Note: Failure to report outside aid may result in a bill or reduction of your other financial aid.
Next Step: Get Your Funds
Once you have completed all of these steps, your financial aid will be ready to pay out (disburse) to your student account beginning the week before classes start.
