Freezer Beef Program

We at the APSU Farm are proud to offer our grain-fed Angus steers to the public to be harvested for freezer beef. We will be offering live steers for purchase as half- or whole-interest. We can help you to partner with another customer to purchase a whole steer; however, we only sell sides or whole steers.  

We will also provide transportation to the processor, Hampton’s Meats.

You are responsible for processing costs and pick-up of the beef once it is processed.

Important Dates:

• We will be taking steers to the processor in: June 2026.
• Deposit due by May 31, 2026.
• Final payment will be due June 15, 2026. 

NOTE: You will be responsible for processing costs and payment to Hampton’s Meats for their service. You will be purchasing the live steer from us or partnering with another customer for a whole steer. We will provide trucking to the processing facility for you. 

Costs

Live Animal 

The cost of live steers will be $2.76/lb based on their live weight. Our steers usually range from 1200-1350 lbs (but this can vary). This would give an estimated cost between $3,312 to $3,726 for the steer itself. 

Processing Costs 

Processing will be done by Hamption Premium Meats in Hopkinsville, KY. Processing cost is $1.05/lb of carcass weight.

Deposits

We ask that you submit a $500 deposit to hold a steer for you. This deposit is not refundable should you decide not to purchase the steer. However, it will be applied to the balance of your steer cost when you complete the purchase.
