APSU hosting an Evening with National Book Award Finalist Bonnie Jo Campbell

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA) at Austin Peay State University will host bestselling author Bonnie Jo Campbell on February 15 from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. in Art & Design room 120.

As funded by the Roy Acuff Chair of Excellence, the evening will feature Campbell giving a live reading of her creative work followed by a public Question & Answer session. Attendees are welcome to stay after the reading and Q&A to have copies of their books signed by the author. Copies of her book will be available for purchase.

Bonnie Jo Campbell is the author of the novels Once Upon a River, a National Bestseller, and Q Road. Her critically-acclaimed short fiction collections include American Salvage, which was a finalist for both the National Book Award and the National Book Critic’s Circle Award; Women and Other Animals, which won the AWP prize for short fiction; and Mothers, Tell Your Daughters (Autumn 2015). Her story “The Smallest Man in the World” was awarded a Pushcart Prize and her story “The Inventor, 1972″ was awarded the 2009 Eudora Welty Prize from Southern Review. She was a 2011 Guggenheim Fellow.

This casual event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

APSU alumna's illustrations featured in The New York Times

Kaylie Fairclough regularly shares her artwork on social media, but she recently found a new platform when The New York Times commissioned her to create four illustrations for a widely read opinion piece. Her work was published as part of a story centered on increased office vacancies in the aftermath of COVID-19.

McLean Fahnestock named chair of APSU's Department of Art + Design

Austin Peay State University's Department of Art + Design has announced the appointment of McLean Fahnestock as the new department chair, effective June 1, 2023. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from California State University Long Beach and has served as an associate professor of art foundations at Austin Peay since 2016.

CECA Tennessee Artist Fellow Yancy Villa to present at the Frist Art Museum on May 18

Villa is an interdisciplinary artist and civic design consultant from Memphis, Tennessee, whose work focuses on creating social engagement. Her work has appeared in mediums ranging from visual art and activism to performance art and urban planning.
