This Week at Austin Peay: Fall classes, football begin!

Freshman Convocation 2019 Austin Peay

(Posted Aug. 26, 2019)

This is it, Govs! Are you ready? Today is the first day of fall classes. But the kickoff of classes isn’t the only big thing happening on campus this week.

Football home opener – and the new Stache Street

Football season starts with when the Govs and new head coach Mark Hudspeth host North Carolina Central 7 p.m. Thursday at Fortera Stadium.

Austin Peay also will unveil a new pregame event on Thursday: Stache Street, which will take over Marion Street in front of the stadium and the Foy Fitness Center.

As letsgopeay.com notes, “Governors fans will be able to walk Stache Street and enjoy an array of food truck options and inflatable games.” There’ll also be live music.

Stache Street festivities open at 4 p.m. and close 30 minutes before kickoff. For more information about Stache Street, click here.

Soccer home opener vs. Mercer

The soccer team has its home opener 7 p.m. Friday against Mercer at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field. For more about the young soccer season, click here.

Governor mascot, Austin Peay

Who Kidnapped the Gov?

You’ll get a chance to find our missing (and beloved) mascot at this campus-wide clue game 3:30-6:30 p.m. today under the big white tent in the Morgan University Center Plaza. The event is hosted by the Wesley Foundation.

For more about the Wesley Foundation, go to http://apsuwesley.org.

Welcome Back Breakfast at the Military Student Center

The kind folks at the Military Student Center like to kick off the semester with this tasty tradition. Breakfast is catered by Chartwells from 8:30-10 a.m. at Room 120 of the Morgan University Center. It’s open to all students, and the food is free. The. Food. Is. Free.

For more about the Military Student Center, go to www.apsu.edu/msc.

Involvement Fair on Thursday

Join the more than 130 student organizations and our campus departments for the annual Involvement Fair 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday in the Morgan University Center Plaza under the big white tent.

You’ll get a chance to speak to student leaders of each organization and to find the groups that are right for you. There’ll be interactive displays and giveaways.

#Adulting, the fine art of growing a plant

Join GovsLEAD in a light-hearted demonstration in this continuing series on learning the basics (the very, very basics) of being an adult. The event is open to all students and Austin Peay employees (we all need tips on being an adult), and the first 25 students who come in person receive a free gift.

The demo is noon-12:30 p.m. Friday at the Morgan University Plaza.

If your #adulting meter has tanked and you just can’t show up in the flesh, you can watch the demo on Student Life & Engagement’s Instagram: @APSUSLE.
