PHI KAPPA PHI CHAPTER 191 ACTIVITIES

 


 

2008-2009 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: collected and distributed ~ 1600 age-appropriate books to children trick-or-treating at APSU G.H.O.S.T. event, October 24, 2008. - Co-sponsor  with the APSU AAUP chapter:  Library Athenaeum presentation "Freedom of Speech on a University Campus and in the Workplace" by Dr. Bruce Barry, Management and Sociology, Vanderbilt University, March 31, 2009  - hold the new member induction ceremony on April 14, 2009.


 

2007-2008 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: collected and distributed ~ 1200 age-appropriate books to children trick-or-treating at APSU G.H.O.S.T. event, October 28, 2007. - sponsored the presentation of Adrenaline, introduced by the film's director, David Alford (APSU alumnus and APSU PKP Academic Hall of Fame inductee 2007), October 18, 2007. - held the new member induction ceremony, inducted one honoree into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame on April 15, 2008.

2006-2007 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: collected and distributed ~ 1300 age-appropriate books to children trick-or-treating at APSU G.H.O.S.T. event, October 29, 2006. - sponsored a Fall Forum and Membership Meeting, (The forum program featured presentations by three Chapter members who recently published books based on their research.  Jill Franks, Associate Professor of English: Islands and the Modernists: The Allure of Isolation in Art, Literature and Science, 2006, McFarland; Dwonna Goldstone, Associate Professor of English, Integrating the 40 Acres: The Fifty-Year Struggle for Racial Equality at the University of Texas, 2006, University of Georgia Press; Bert Randall, Professor of Philosophy, Strangers on the Shore: The Beatitudes in World Religions, 2006, Peter Lang Publishing.), November 16, 2006. - sponsored the presentation ofMusic Is My Life, Politics My Mistress: the Oscar Brown, Jr. Story, introduced by the film's director, donnie l. betts, February 8, 2007 - held the new member induction ceremony, inducted three honorees into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame and into Phi Kappa Phi on April 12, 2007.

2005-2006 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES:  sponsored a graduate school workshop. - sponsored "We're aw Jack Tamson's Bairns":  A Wee Tour of the Scottish Highlands with Linda and Jim Thompson, April 19, 2006. - held the new member induction ceremony, inducted two honorees into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame and into Phi Kappa Phi on April 6, 2006.

 


 

2004-2005 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: sent chapter's president as voting delegate to PKP National Conference at  Albuquerque, NM, August, 2004. - sponsored a graduate school workshop. - collected and distributed ~ 1000 age-appropriate books to children trick-or-treating at APSU G.H.O.S.T. event, October 29, 2004. - sponsored "The Liberal Arts and the First-Year Experience" conference, March 15, 2005. - held the new member induction ceremony, inducted two honorees into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame and into Phi Kappa Phi, and had a special retroactive induction into Phi Kappa Phi of seven prior Academic Hall of Fame inductees on April 14, 2005.

 


 

2003-2004 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: sent chapter's president as voting delegate to PKP Regional Conference at The Citadel, Charleston, SC, August, 2003. - sponsored a graduate school workshop. - sponsored a Fall Forum:  presentations by Dr. Allene Phy-Olsen, "Religion in Outer Space," and by Eric Lamp, PKP191 Student VP, "Peay Pride in Greece," October 27, 2003. - collected and distributed ~ 300 age-appropriate books to children trick-or-treating at APSU G.H.O.S.T. event, October 31, 2003. - sponsored a Spring  Forum:  presentations by Dr. Sharon Mabry, "Teaching:  A Performance Art," and by Dr. Bruce Myers, "Community Service for University Faculty," March 29, 2004. - held the new member induction ceremony and inducted two honorees into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame on April 22, 2004.

 


 

2002-2003 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: awarded 2 scholarships during the academic year. - sponsored "Excellence in the Liberal Arts" conference, February 28-March 1, 2003. - held the new member induction ceremony, and inducted two honorees into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame on April 24, 2003.  Induction ceremony Keynote Speaker was Dr. Wayne Lacy, Southeast Regional Vice PKP President.

 


 

2001-2002 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: awarded 2 scholarships during the academic year. - Chapter 191 awarded a Promotion of Excellence Grant (one of only 7 in the country) to advance the goal of excellence in higher education funded from PKP National. - held the new member induction ceremony and inducted one honoree into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame on April 28, 2002.  

 


 

2000-2001 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: celebrated the 25th anniversary of the founding of chapter 191. - awarded 2 scholarships during the academic year. - sponsored a graduate school workshop. - sponsored "What Is the University" panel discussion, October 26, 2000. - sponsored a members' social at Beachhaven Winery, attendees helped identify subjects in chapter photos from over the years, December 3, 2000. - held the new member induction ceremony, honored chapter founding members, honored Regan Hill, alumna winner of 2000-2001 Award of Excellence, and inducted one honoree into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame on April 29, 2001.  Induction ceremony Keynote Speaker was Dr. Neil Luebke, National PKP President. - Meredith and Richard Gildrie represented Chapter 191 at the Triennial Convention in August.

 


 

1999-2000 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: awarded 2 scholarships during the academic year. - sponsored a graduate school workshop. - sponsored Julie Strasshofer, student vice president, who attended the PKP Triennial Conference, August 5-7, 1999, in Atlanta, Georgia. - awarded second place in Wesley Foundation's Canned Meat Drive in fall semester. - sponsored a social for all sophomore and junior students on November 10, 1999. - sponsored two prizes for excellence in writing for students in the APSU Heritage Program. - held the new member induction ceremony and inducted four honorees into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame on April 9, 2000.

 


 

1998-'99 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: awarded 2 scholarships during the academic year. - sponsored a graduate school workshop. - sent chapter's president as voting delegate to PKP National Triennial Conference at Penn State University, August, 1998. - sponsored a social for student members of freshman honorary society Alpha Lambda Delta and student members of Phi Kappa Phi on March 23, 1999. - participated in Wesley Foundation's Canned Meat Drive and Toy Drive (November, 1998 and March, 1999). - sponsored two prizes for excellence in writing for students in the APSU Heritage Program. - held the new member induction ceremony and inducted two honorees into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame on April 11, 1999. - participated in APSU's Renaissance Family Day, May 3, 1999. - made a donation to Robert F. Sears Scholarship in Physics.

 


 

1997-'98 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: awarded 2 scholarships during the academic year. - sponsored a graduate school workshop. - sponsored a social for student members of freshman honorary society Alpha Lambda Delta and student members of Phi Kappa Phi on October 30, 1997.- held the new member induction ceremony and inducted three honorees into the APSU Academic Hall of Fame on April 18, 1998.

 


 

1996-'97 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: awarded 2 scholarships during the academic year. - sponsored a graduate school workshop. - held the National organization's 100th anniversary celebration in conjunction with the new member reception on April 27, 1997. - Established the APSU Academic Hall of Fame and inducted eight honorees on April 27, 1997. - Established an Endowed Fund for Chapter 191.

 


 

1995-'96 CHAPTER ACTIVITIES: awarded 2 scholarships during the academic year. - sponsored a book reception for Dr. Sal Rinella, APSU President. - established a campus-wide Honors Council with 21 honors organizations as charter members. - sponsored a graduate school workshop. - held the chapter's 20th anniversary reception on March 20, 1996. - sponsored new member initiation reception and honors festival. - visited by Larry Sommer and PKP President Ann Nalley.
