Dr. Spencer Prewitt

Spencer Prewitt is the Assistant Professor of Clarinet at Austin Peay State University. Before coming to APSU, Dr. Prewitt served as instructor of clarinet at the Flint Institute of Music, Saginaw Valley State University, and during the summer is on faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lakes, Michigan. Dr. Prewitt earned his B.M. from the University of Oklahoma and his M.M. and D.M.A. from Bowling Green State University in Bowing Green, OH.

As an orchestral musician he frequently performs with the symphonies in Toledo, Fort Wayne, Ann Arbor, Flint, Lansing, and most recently, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Prewitt also performed for six seasons with the Ohio Light Opera Orchestra and recorded 11 CDs with the company.

As a chamber musician he won a silver medal at the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition in Boston with the PVC Trio and with The Fawn Trio won a judges recognition prize in the Plowman Chamber Music Competition and was a semi-finalist in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition

Dr. Prewitt’s teachers have included Nancy Seward, Dr. David Etheridge, and Kevin Schempf. When not practicing, Spencer enjoys running races from 5k to the marathon.
