Conversation Partners - Information & Application

Thank you for your interest in being a conversation partner! The Conversation Partners program promotes informal meetings between international ESL students and fluent English speakers which emphasizes an information exchange through the use of English in natural conversation. It allows both participants to learn more about each other's culture, provides the non-native English partner an opportunity to practice conversing in English, fosters international friendships and opens opportunities to share about campus activities and events.

Conversation Partner Requirements:

• Be open-minded and willing to teach and learn new things;
• Be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA) with no history of formal or informal student code-of-conduct violations;
• Be able to have weekly contact or communication with your conversation partner;
• Be able to meet together at least once every two weeks - once per week is preferred;
• Be available at least some afternoons during the week - not just weekends and evenings.

Applications are typically due the Tuesday of the second week of classes each semester. A matching meeting is held at 3 p.m. the day after the application deadline and a meet and greet event is held at 3 p.m. the following day.
