Pre-Professional Health

To support our PPH students, we have academic advisors that are well-versed in the requirements to admission to professional health schools. Registering as a Pre-Professional Health student will allow us to keep in touch with you so that you receive vital information in a timely manner. PPH students have an opportunity to participate in events designed to improve chances of gaining admission to professional health schools.

APSU strives to ensure each student obtains the skills and information needed to be a successful professional health school applicant.

There are no specific majors linked to any of the pre-professional programs so it can be a daunting task to navigate the various programs of pre-professional health (PPH).  This office is here to help you find the correct program for you and to help you reach your goals of becoming a health care specialist.  To support our PPH students, we have academic advisors that are well-versed in the requirements to admission to professional health schools.  For incoming freshmen, APSU 1000 courses are offered that specialize in the pre-professional health areas, including Pre-Medicine, Pre-Pharmacy and Pre-Physical Therapy to name just a few of the PPH options. Registering as a Pre-Professional Health student will allow us to keep in touch with you so that you receive vital information in a timely manner.  Many of our students join the Pre-Professional Health Society (PPHS), although that is not a requirement to receive benefits from this office.  PPH students have an opportunity to participate in events designed to improve chances of gaining admission to professional health schools. These events include mock interviews for professional schools, taking practice entrance exams in your field, finding out how to “shadow" a professional, volunteering in your field of interest and taking field trips to professional schools and surrounding health care facilities to learn more about the health care field.

Registering as a Pre-Professional Health student is easy.  Anyone can declare that information on the “change of major” form. You will then be contacted by the Chair of the Department and assigned an advisor for your Pre-Professional Health program.  Make an appointment with your new Pre-Professional Advisor as soon as possible to discuss your academic plan.  Also, speak with your PPH advisor about adding a Pre-Professional Health minor to supplement your current declared major.  And of course, contact this office with ANY questions that you have about the entire PPH process!!
