Governors Orientation

Orientation sign-ups for students admitted for Fall 2024 are now open!

Welcome to Austin Peay! As you begin your journey, please know we're here to help. The best time to learn about life at APSU is during Governors Orientation (GO), where we'll answer your questions, introduce academic and support services, highlight campus activities and help you register for classes. Students admitted for Fall 2024 must complete GO before they can be advised to register. Incoming Freshmen must attend an in-person GO session. Parking will be located in the McCord Lot (Lot 40), Behind the Foy Fitness Center (Lot 6), Sevier Lot (Lot 83). You'll know you're in the right place if you see our Governors Orientation flags and the friendly faces of our GO team in their grey shirts. They will tell you where to park once you arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

During Governors Orientation, you'll meet with an advisor and register for classes. This event is mandatory for all incoming, first-time freshmen. Transfer students with more than 12 credit hours (this does not include dual enrollment) may attend an online orientation, but those who attend the in-person event will receive valuable information about the upcoming semester, instruction on how to access their Govs I.D. and a free APSU shirt!

In addition to registering for classes, you will:

  • Learn about living on campus, campus technology and services

  • Get your student I.D. card

  • Visit the campus bookstore and preview textbook requirements

  • Meet with student organizations and learn how to get involved on campus. 

  • Check out our dining venues and meal plans 

  • Complete any other campus business, such as visiting financial aid or verifying immunization compliance with Health Services.

Yes! We strongly encourage parents and family members to attend. Their support, understanding and encouragement can affect your success. At this time, we only have room for two guests per student. While you meet with advisers and register for classes, your family members will attend separate sessions that address their questions or concerns. Parents may not attend the academic advising session. 

Yes, you must attend every activity in order to register for classes at the end of the Governors Orientation session. Please plan to stay from 8 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.

Several one-day sessions are offered in June, July and August. There is a winter orientation date offered in January for students beginning in a Spring term. Register for the earliest date possible. Attending Governors Orientation early will give you more class options and help you get your preferred schedule. Letters will be sent by mail from the Office of Admissions with specific information you need to register for a summer or winter orientation session. Please review the letter carefully.

You can log into the portal to change your reservation to a different date. If you have questions, please contact us at 931-221-7661 or email admissions@apsu.edu.

For students, the fee for Governors Orientation will be billed automatically to your student account, appearing on your tuition and fees statement as a "new student" fee. New student fees covers all of the events that you attend as a new student, including Governors Orientation for parents and guests.
