Policy Statement


The Athletic Department at Austin Peay State University shall operate a program consistent with the University’s academic mission and consistent with and in adherence to the regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Ohio Valley Conference (OVC).

The governing body for intercollegiate athletics at Austin Peay State University is the Athletic Committee.

Charge of the
Committee

The Athletic Committee will regularly review issues associated with the welfare of student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics in OVC and NCAA sports to ensure that the University and the Athletics Department maintain the proper balance between participation in athletics and academic achievement. 

The Athletic Committee will prepare an annual report and other reports as needed, advising the President and the Faculty Senate of the Athletics Department’s performance with respect to its academic and athletic goals and with respect to the welfare of the student-athletes participating in OVC and NCAA sports. 

The Athletic Committee will communicate the concerns of student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics to the Faculty Senate and the University community, including the Athletics Department, the University administration, academic departments, the faculty as a whole, and other groups as warranted.

Membership of
the Committee

The function of the Athletic Committee is to monitor the administration of the athletic program. This is a standing committee with the membership and chair appointed by the President.  The Athletic Committee shall consist of the following:

-the Faculty Athletics Representative

-Six faculty members

-Three members of the administrative/professional staff outside of athletics

-the Director of Athletics

-the Senior Woman Administrator of Athletics

-the Director of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, Title IX Coordinator

-Four student-athletes recommended by the Director of Athletic Academic Services
