Vice president for finance and administration named

An Austin Peay State University alumnus has been named to a top administrative position at his alma mater. Dr. Robert H. Adams became APSU vice president for finance and administration, replacing Mitch Robinson, who returns to Dyersburg State Community College after completing a successful interim vice presidency.
Adams, who comes to APSU from his position as associate executive director for finance and administration for the Tennessee Higher Education Association, has extensive knowledge of Tennessee's formula funding. While at THEC, he implemented revisions to the operating budget formula to reflect better funding needs of state public institutions.
A certified public accountant, Adams earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from APSU in 1973, his MBA and Ed.S., both from Middle Tennessee State University, and a doctorate in higher education administration and policy studies from UT-Knoxville.
"I am excited to be returning 'home' to Austin Peay. Although I've been away from Clarksville for the past 20 years, I've never stopped following thee progress at APSU," Adams said. "What makes Austin Peay special is its people, and I look forward to renewing old acquaintances and developing new ones on campus and in the community.
"The leadership of Dr. Hoppe has Austin Peay moving in the right direction, and I appreciate the opportunity to be part of her team."
Between 1986 and 1999 while at MTSU, Adams worked his way up the ladder, serving as director of finance, assistant vice president for finance and administration and associate vice president. His duties included leadership and direct supervision of finance and accounting, cash management, bursar's office, accounts payable, capital projects budgeting, athletic business office, contract review and management services.
In 1981 Adams left his job at APSU to join the staff of the Tennessee Board of Regents where he worked until 1986 as financial analyst and, then, senior financial analyst.
During 1977-81, he worked at APSU as an accountant/budget analyst and then as budget director. He was a fiscal officer with the Military Department of Tennessee in 1976-77 and a state auditor for the two previous years.
In addition to more than 22 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard, he is a former president of his Kiwanis Club and served as a Scoutmaster for a Boy Scout Troop.
He holds memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of College and University Business Officers, National Association of Government Accountants and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
The son of Roberta Adams and the late Chester Adams of Clarksville, Adams and his wife, Darla, have a grown son, Jeffrey, 25.
