Tuesday meeting focuses on shaping higher ed's future

The time has come to make hard decisions about funding higher education in Tennessee.
To gather as much input as possible from the campus and larger community, Dr. Sherry Hoppe and Bobby Sullivan, director of the Tennessee Technology Center, Dickson, will co-host a Town Hall Meeting at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4 in the concert theatre, music/mass communication building.
Hoppe urges faculty, staff and students to attend. "That higher education is at a crossroads is no secret," she says. "Over the past few months, media statewide have provided near-daily updates on the financial dilemmas within Tennessee higher education.
"Even I-an avowed optimist-concede we are nearing a crisis. With no budget relief on the horizon, the Tennessee Board of Regents has initiated an intense schedule of meetings during which we will come up with recommendations on how we can operate more efficiently. Everyone's input is needed."
