Swirl, sniff, sip: Students to study the chemistry of wine

The study of chemistry doesn't have to be limited to the classroom, but who would have envisioned it could take place in a winery?

Later this month, Dr. Todd Lafrenz, assistant professor of chemistry and chair elect of the Nashville Section of the American Chemical Society, will host a seminar titled "The Chemistry of Wine" at the Beachhaven Winery in Clarksville.

A tour, wine tasting, snacks and a discussion will kick off the March 24 event. Dr. J. Ernest Simpson of California State Polytechnic University in Pomona then will give a presentation.

The evening will wrap up with a 6 p.m. dinner at a local restaurant.
