History Club, department announce essay contest
October 9, 2001
Austin Peay State University students have an opportunity to play a significant role in helping with history in the making, literally.
As part of the 75th Anniversary celebration, the APSU History Club and the department of history and philosophy are sponsoring an essay contest that is open to all APSU students.
According to Dr. Thomas P. Dixon, professor of history and adviser to the History Club, students who enter the context will interview outstanding APSU graduates and write biographical essays of no more than 1,000 words per essay.
Once the essays have been submitted and evaluated, the top five will be awarded a $100 cash prize. Additionally, winning essays will be submitted to "The All-State" and the editor of "Austin Peay" magazine for possible inclusion in an upcoming edition.
Dixon said, "Students will be supplied with a list of prospective alumni to be interviewed, sample questions and a format for conducting the interview."
The deadline for submitting the biographical essays is Dec. 31, 2001.
