Former Gov spotted charging with the Bulls on WGN
December 10, 2001
Former basketball hotshot Trenton Hassell, who graduated from Austin Peay last year, is getting national TV exposure as a member of the Chicago Bulls. "We turned on Chicago television WGN (Nov. 29), and there was Trenton Hassell in the starting five for the Chicago Bulls!" say APSU faculty members Dr. Vernon and Nell Northington.
"It was only the 13th game of the season, and here was the rookie in a starting position!"
The Northingtons says Hassell played "very well," scoring 13 points, and he played "fine" defense. "He was pitted against a strong Miami player and was very effective in limiting that player's scoring," they said in an e-mail to Dennie Burke, Office of Public Relations and Marketing.
They say the former APSU star has "bulked up a bit" but still moves with agility and skill.
Hassell's appearance on televised games is great for the University. The commentators mentioned APSU on several occasions in the game, the Northingtons report. "What an advertisement for Austin Peay!"
