Dr. James Church, an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, recently spoke to The Tennessean about the benefits – and problems – of ChatGPT, a free online tool that has dominated artificial news lately.

As a computer scientist, Church has been testing the limits of the new tool by asking it to write code.

Sometimes ChatGPT is perfect.

“Other times, I see mistakes in that code,” Church told the Tennessean.

Registration open for APSU's 2026 CoSTEM Summer Camps

The College of STEM has opened registration for its 2026 summer camps, offering programs in space exploration, data science, robotics, and coding for students in multiple age groups.

To qualify for this renewable scholarship, students must be enrolled full-time in the computer science or quantitative methods graduate programs and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Priority will be given to international students, and the funds can also be used to provide graduate assistant stipends if no qualified recipients are available.
