Austin Peay gets first sociological honor society; six students inducted

Under the leadership of Dr. E. Kelly Sanford, associate professor of sociology, Austin Peay has gained membership in Alpha Kappa Delta, the international organization dedicated to promoting and recognizing scholarship in the study of sociology.
The charter is a first for the University and an important milestone for the department of sociology.
Six charter student members were recognized at the Dec. 7 ceremony marking the event. Amy M. Schmittou, Gabrielle H. Napoleaon, Sheila M. McKnight, Melisa J. Lintt, John C. Howard and Karla J. Marmann have a 3.0 average or above, as required by the organization.
Three students-Marmann, McKnight and Schmittou--received the Alpha Kappa Delta Honor Cord at the ceremony. McKnight and Marmann presented papers at the Southern Undergraduate Symposium at Emory University during spring semester. Schmittou has been accepted at Southern Christian University in the School of Human Services Marriage and Family Therapy.
